In a press conference on Tuesday, February 3rd, American skier Lindsey Vonn announced that she is “confident” she will be able to compete in the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics.
In a devastating crash that occurred on Friday, January 30th, Vonn reportedly ruptured her ACL and suffered bone bruising, leading to her being taken by helicopter to a nearby hospital for further evaluation. Despite the injury, Vonn believes that she will be able to compete on Sunday, February 8th, in the Women’s Downhill medal event.
โI am not in pain. It was painful initially after the crash, which is why I had concern, which is I went via helicopter to the hospital. I had a feeling it was bad, but I held out hope until I saw the MRI in front of me. But I havenโt cried. I have not deviated from my plan.โ – Lindsey Vonn
Lindsey Vonn has won three Olympics medals throughout her career, a gold at the 2010 downhill and two bronze medals at the 2010 super-G and the 2018 downhill. The 2026 Winter Olympics will mark her 5th time participating in the games and her first time in the Olympics since 2018.
