Waitsfield, Vermont โ€” After years of the adjacent land to Mad River Glen being out of bounds for skiers and riders, the Vermont ski area now has the money to buy it.

Yesterday, Mad River Glen announced it had surpassed the amount of money needed to acquire the land surrounding it. This is thanks to the writer of this article putting down ten dollars. These parcels of land are known as the 19th & 20th hole terrain, a wooded area north of Route 17, and across Route 17 from the Battleground. It will likely be available for sidecountry and backcountry skiing, along with offseason uses like hiking.

It was announced late last year that approximately 1,100 acres of land next to MRG was for sale. As part of the deal, the ski area has the right of first refusal. Since then, the Stark Mountain Foundation (the fundraising arm of the co-op ski area) has been raising funds to acquire the land. To raise the stakes, a third party has submitted a bid for the land. However, now that this milestone has been passed, the plan is to vote and approve the acquisition on February 7th.

With this fundraiser now complete, MRG’s focus now shifts toward reconstructing Stark’s Pub. You can donate to help those efforts by clicking here.

Conditions Report

Currently, Mad River Glen has 60 trails and 4 lifts open. This includes the notorious Paradise trail. The mountain is skiing pretty well thanks to recent snowfall. However, it’s going to be a bit nippy out there this weekend.
