Gatlinburg, Tennessee โ While Tennessee is a mountainous place, it’s not an easy place to operate a ski resort. Only one exists, and it struggled a few years ago to keep its slopes open due to the warmer climate. However, new ownership has invested heavily in recent years on new snowmaking equipment, including all-weather systems.
Their improvements were on display last week, as Ober Mountain opened one of its two black diamond trails. On Thursday, Ober opened up the Wildfire piste. Last opened in March 2021, it had been roughly five years since it was last open. This black diamond trail winds through the Smoky Mountain forest and is full of fun twists and turns. Ober doesn’t have the most modern tech to get that trail open, so they’re using stick guns to fill it.
At this point, Ober Mountain has all of its trails open. Not bad for a ski resort in Tennessee.
