Telluride, Colorado — Are you confused about the Telluride situation? While the problem has gotten people’s attention over the past week or so, the actual factors have been ongoing for decades.

In an episode of the BLISTER Podcast, Jason Blevins, who’s the outdoors reporter for The Colorado Sun, discusses the various aspects of the strike. He’s covered the Colorado ski industry for decades, so he’s aware of the intricacies of the situation at Telluride Ski Resort and its owner, Chuck Horning.

The episode dives into the complexities of the situation, including the expensive town, ski patrollers’ demands, the unpredictable owner, and whether this would mean wage increases for everyone at the ski resort.

Since that podcast was recorded, there have been some noticeable developments. Telluride Ski Resort reopened today (Monday, January 5th). This opening is without the patrollers, who are still on strike. It’s a limited opening, with Lift 1 and two magic carpets operating. The plan is to bring in some SCAB workers along with four ski patrollers who can’t join the strike. This past weekend, the ski resort gave a revised offer to the union, which patrollers rejected because it didn’t bridge the money gap between the two sides.
