Telluride, Colorado โ€” As the Telluride ski patrol strike officially begins its second week, the ski resort has developed a plan to operate.

The Telluride Times reports that Telluride Ski Resort plans to reopen some of its slopes on Sunday. A Telluride spokesperson to the Times that it plans to have Lift 1, Meadows Carpet, and Vista Carpet open beginning on January 5th. This will be made possible by contingency workers, a mix of EMS workers and non-unionized workers who can’t join the striking Telluride patrollers.

“There are four non-unionized patrollers that are ineligble for the union,” said TPSPA President Graham Hoffman to The Telluride Times. “We understand the position they are in and offer them nothing but support. These are our friends.”

It should be noted that Lift One is the Chondola. This serves a small amount of beginner terrain below the Mountain Village. The other lifts are magic carpets that service learning terrain. However, Telluride is currently making snow in the Village Express (Lift 4), which would offer more varied terrain. If you have a trip planned for Telluride next week, it may be worth looking elsewhere if you like lots of terrain.

Meanwhile, the Telluride Ski Patrol Union remains on strike. A new offer was reportedly presented to the patrol today, but the stroke doesn’t appear to be getting any closer to a resolution.
