Several webcams live streaming on New Hampshire’s Mount Washington captured footage of a meteor lighting up the night sky on Saturday, December 27th, at around 5:59pm. While none of the cameras captured a clear view of the fireball itself, plenty of bright white flashes are very visible.
At 17:59:08 EST last night (12/27) a fireball flashed overhead, briefly lighting up the summit and neighboring areas. This is a montage of the various cams from work (@MWObs) that caught the flash of light. pic.twitter.com/XV9agyNqmk

The cameras atop Mount Washington weren’t the only ones to capture footage of the meteor as the night lit up in several surrounding neighborhoods and communities. While driving north towards the Portsmouth Traffic Circle, Rob Wright captured an incredible video of the fireball actually streaking across the sky.
Fireballs are unusually bright meteors that reach a visual magnitude of -3 or brighter when seen at the observer’s zenith.
