Jackson Hole, Wyoming — You may not have realized it, but photographer Wade McKoy played a huge part in making Jackson Hole a skiing mecca.

Over the past 45 years, Wade McKoy has photographed many skiers and riders in Jackson Hole. During the 70s, 80s, and 90s, he captured the rise of extreme skiing in Jackson Hole, which ultimately became one of the sport’s core pillars.

“I don’t believe Jackson Hole would be on the map if there wasn’t Wade McKoy. He is monumental in the sport of skiing. Any photographer that shoots skiing and outdoors owes respect to Wade McKoy,” said Rick Armstrong, a Jackson Hole pro skier.

In this video by Visit Jackson Hole, Wade McKoy discusses his life living in Jackson Hole. He discusses photography, why he chose Jackson Hole as his stomping grounds, creating a local ski magazine, and his favorite shots from his career.

Wade McKoy’s life in photography is captured in his new book, The Arc of Skiing Jackson Hole. Released earlier this year, it features high-quality photographs from his time spent there. Click here to purchase your copy.
