Most people feel pretty safe when skiing or snowboarding on a groomed, in-bound trail on resort, but this video from four-time Australian Olympic snowboarderย Scotty James shows why that shouldn’t always be the case. While riding at Saas-Fee in the Swiss Alps James came across a crevasse right in the middle of the trail, and it looks to go down a fair distance.
As much of Saas-Fee is located on a glacier, crevasses are very much possible. Fortunately this one seems mostly covered and probably pretty hard to fall into, but that doesn’t mean it can’t do some damage to someone who dips a ski or snowboard into the hole. Let this be a reminder to stay alert even if you’re on a planned out groomer.
Saas-Fee offers some remarkable high-altitude skiing with top-notch snow conditions throughout much of the season. Thanks to the Allalin Glacier, skiing and snowboarding are possible year-round. Plus, the resorts lift network is seriously impressive and the resort offers the unique Ice Pavilion inside a glacier with tunnels and ice sculptures.
