Monticello, New York — It’s been a period of growth at Holiday Mountain, but it hasn’t been without its share of challenges. Some of the changes for this ski season, such as a new rope tow that services a terrain park, are ready to go. The other significant improvement is a lodge for snow tubing and a summer day camp, which will need some work after the ski area’s second fire this year.

On Friday, Holiday Mountain suffered its second fire of the year. This one occurred in a new lodge that’s been under construction this offseason. It will be home to the snow tubing operations. Due to the fire, they had to remove parts of the previously installed ceiling.

A Sunday update from the ski area showed repair crews working on the ceiling, meaning it’s not an overwhelming fix. In addition, their day lodge for skiers is in good shape.

This follows a fire in April 2024 at its snowmaking pumphouse. However, it was rebuilt quickly and is back in service.

Since its acquisition by local businessman and ski patroller Mike Taylor in 2023, many changes have come to the ski area. Some of the improvements include replacing the Turkey Trot chairlift with a fixed-grip quad, adding a new double-black-diamond trail, extensive snowmaking upgrades, new lights for night skiing, and more. The 2026-27 season will see the reopening of the North Bowl terrain pod, which will be serviced by a chairlift.

Despite these setbacks, snowmaking is well underway at Holiday, and they plan to open for the ski season on December 19th.
