Logan, Utah โ After a few years of construction, Beaver Mountain’s new lodge is complete. However, the ski area is not yet ready to open for the season.
In November, Beaver Mountain held an open house for the new Marge’s Cabin. It provided the community with a first chance to check out the new space. According to KSL, reaching that point was tricky, as it took over 2.5 years to complete. Adding to the difficulty was the need to bring up 27,000 tons of various materials.
This new 26,000-square-foot Margeโs Cabin features food options, a retail shop, rentals, a ski school, locker rooms, an events space, and bathrooms. While they are working on acquiring an alcohol permit, there is sadly not going to be a bar for aprรจs. Classic Utah (this isn’t a shot at Beaver; it’s legitimately difficult to get a liquor license in Utah).
Sadly, this led to the demise of the original Marge’s Cabin. This facility was home to the ski area’s ticket office. Julie Jag of the Salt Lake Tribune wrote a great piece about that building and Marge’s legacy, which you can read here. Probably the coolest feature in the new lodge is that the old wood from the original Marge’s Cabin was reused in the new ticket office.
The coolest part of the move-in process was when they moved the gear from the retail and rental shops. Beaver Mountain offered free pizza for those who showed up and helped out. The whole community showed up, because there’s nothing better than free pizza unless there’s pineapple on it.
This past weekend, KSL checked in with Beaver Mountain to see how prep for opening day was going. Beaver continues to move things around in order to have the lodge officially open for skiers and riders. Another storm is likely needed to open for the season. Unfortunately, it seems like Utah is about to go through another dry stretch.
“Our team’s been frantically getting the space in order,” said Travis Seeholzer, Mountain Operations Manager at Beaver, to KSL. “We were hoping this was going to be done a month ago, and we’re still wrapping up a few things and moving in and kind of doing it on the fly.”
About Beaver Mountain
In a Utah ski industry that’s become more corporate over the years, Beaver Mountain has bucked that trend. First opened in 1939, it’s been owned by the Seeholzers throughout the ski resort’s history. The ski area features 48 trails across 828 skiable acres, 6 lifts, and a vertical drop of 1,700 feet.
Beaver Mountain has yet to open for the season, as it relies on natural snowfall to operate. As a result, an opening date has yet to be announced.
