Franconia, New Hampshire — While recent years in New England have seen delayed openings due to warm weather, that’s not the case this time around. Some have even moved their openings up a bit. The latest example of this is an announcement today from arguably New Hampshire’s best ski area.

Today, Cannon Mountain announced that it will open for the 2025-26 season on Saturday, November 22nd. This is six days earlier than their initial planned opening date of November 28th. This is thanks to cold temperatures over the past few weeks, along with over a foot of powder over the past seven days.

“This early start is a credit to our team,” said Jace Wirth, General Manager of Cannon Mountain & Franconia Notch State Park. “They pushed hard when temperatures lined up and Mother Nature gave us a boost at just the right moment. It sets us up to offer our guests a great early-season experience.”

Cannon is scheduled to open at 9 a.m. on Saturday. Top-to-bottom skiing will be available thanks to lift service from the Peabody Express and Cannonball Quads. There will be at least five trails open, all of which will be intermediate terrain.

Preseason lift ticket rates will be in effect from Nov. 22 through Nov. 26. Adults ski for $64 when purchasing in advance.

At 10 a.m., a new mural will be unveiled inside the Peabody Lodge, created by acclaimed local artist Zach Johnsen. The installation highlights Cannon’s unique energy, heritage, and community spirit. The unveiling is scheduled for 10:00 a.m. I’ve seen it, and it’s a cool portrait that captures the aura of the mountain.

“I’m sure our first chair regulars are already planning their very early morning arrival,” Wirth said. “We can’t wait for the mountain to buzz once again with friends and families meeting up on the snow for their first turns of the season. There’s nothing like it.”
