While the Stifel Copper World Cup presented by United Airlines has been on the World Cup schedule for a while now, it was only just revealed that the event has passed snow control, meaning the world’s best ski racers will be competing at Copper Mountain, Colorado, in just 9 days.
The event begins on Thursday, November 27th (yes, Thanksgiving Day) with the Men’s Audi FIS Ski World Cup Super-G at 10am. On Friday, November 28th, the men will be competing in Giant Slalom, followed by the women’s Giant Slalom on Saturday, November 29th. The event will wrap up on Sunday, November 30th, with women’s slalom.
While Colorado hasn’t seen a whole lot of snow so far this year, Copper Mountain operations were able to take advantage of cold weather and the latest HKD Snowmakers to produce top-to-bottom snow coverage ahead of the competition weekend. Copper is also open to the public thanks to the same snowmaking.
Snow control is conducted 10 days before the official arrival day for speed events and 7 days before the official arrival day for technical events. The checks are done to ensure that there’s enough snow for the race to go on safely. In the past, races that don’t pass snow control have been cancelled or postponed.
The Stifel Copper Cup is free to attend, but VIP and Grandstand tickets are available to those looking for a better view throughout the competition.
