Turkey — You may not think of it as a skiing destination, but Turkey is full of memorable shredding spots. Just ask Dan Egan, one of the best big-mountain skiers of all time.

In 1991, Dan Egan and his brother, John Egan, traveled to Turkey to explore the country and its skiable terrain. The footage was used in Dan’s film, The Extreme Dream, and in Warren Miller’s 1991 film, Steeper and Deeper.

Last winter, Dan Egan returned to Turkey to retrace his steps and experience how the ski scene has changed over the nearly thirty-five-year time span. This time around, Dan brings his nephew and John’s son, Johnny Egan, to revisit the locations from his 1991 trip. In Return to the Silk Road, it shows how much, and also how little, the Silk Road has changed. The film will probably inspire you to make at least one trip to Turkey in your lifetime.
