If there’s one thing you can probably work on when skiing on the mountain, it’s technique. No matter how good of a skier you are, there’s almost certainly a few things you can improve to make your skiing form more powerful and cleaner. If you’re a beginner, the several different technique rules and tips can get overwhelming, so before you stress yourself out, boil it down to these two Golden Rules of Ski Technique as explained by Avoriaz Alpine Ski School.
Like any “Golden Rules”, there are exceptions to both of these, but it’s important that you to understand and master both of these before you start to get too complicated with learning technique. Golden rule#1 is skiing on the inner edge of your outside ski to make clean, powerful turns. It might not feel natural at first, but it’ll be hard to ski any different once you get used to it.
It can be incredibly tempting to lean back when skiing as well, especially if you’re a beginner. Golden rule #2 is that you should stay as perpendicular to the skis as possible. By balancing in the middle, you have more control, can turn easier through the center of the ski, and keep your leg muscles fresher.
