Marius Quast takes on Breckenridge.

German ski instructor Marius Quast did a tour of North American ski resorts, hitting several iconic locations like Jackson Hole, Crested Butte, and Revelstoke. But for his first resort of the trip, Quast stopped at one North America’s highest ski resorts, Breckenridge, and there were a few things that shocked him starting with the cost of lift tickets.

Höchstes Skigebiet der USA: Skipass kostet 255€ pro Tag!

Lift ticket prices at Breckenridge depend on when you buy them, how you buy them, and for what day you buy them. Window prices, if even available, are usually the highest, but you can usually get discounted prices if you buy ahead of time. Tickets for opening day (Friday, November 7th) are currently listed at $149 online.

If you look deeper in the winter, say February 14th, tickets get a lot more expensive. Even with buying the ticket months ahead of time, it would cost $289 online. Of course that’s a Saturday in the heart of the season, and tickets during the week are quite a bit cheeper (closer to $200).

Breckenridge’s claim as the highest ski resort in North America is a bit of a tough one. They certainly have the highest lift, with the Imperial SuperChair reaching an altitude of 12,840 feet. So when it comes to lift-served terrain, Breckenridge is the highest. There are resorts that have higher hike-to terrain, but whether or not that counts to the total is up to the user.
