The 29-year-old, who had recently moved to central Oregon, fell and hit a rock, leading to severe pain to his ribs and hip. Steep terrain and limited access lead Mt. Bachelor Ski Patrol to request assistance from search and rescue to get the man safely down the mountain.
15 volunteers responded, hiking up to the injured snowboarder before stabilizing him and transporting him down to a snowcat access road. Mt. Bachelor staff were able to carry him to the West Village parking area via a snowcat and Bend Fire & Rescue transported him to St. Charles Medical Center-Bend for further evaluation and treatment.
The Mount Bachelor ski area is currently closed until opening day on November 28th, 2025. Until that point, the mountain is uncontrolled and unpatrolled, though skiers and snowboarders are allowed to ride at their own risk.
