Keystone, Colorado — After years of finishing in second in the first-to-open race to A-Basin, Keystone has finally secured the top spot.
A few hours after Arapahoe Basin’s opening day announcement, Keystone Resort told A-Basin to hold their beer, and announced that it was opening today for skiing and riding. The lifts operated today from 3-6 p.m. Mountain Time.
Guests reached the snow by riding the River Run Gondola, then took their skiing laps on the Montezuma Express lift. Skiers and riders were able to access the Schoolmarm and Silver Spoon trails.
Some of the festivities included an early-season hike-to terrain park under snowcat lights, a live DJ, and $5.50 beers and hot dogs to commemorate the ski resort’s 55th season.
“We’re thrilled to kick off the season here at Keystone with over two miles of skiing and riding,” said Keystone Resort Vice President and General Manager Shannon Buhler. “We know how much this moment means to our employees and community, and our team has poured their hearts into creating an incredible early opening celebration. We’re just excited to be back on snow!”
Keystone’s night skiing lights supported these opening efforts. Night skiing will take place at Keystone this season on holidays, along with select Fridays and Saturdays.
This means that Keystone is the first ski resort in North America to open for the season.
In terms of Sunday’s operations, Keystone will run the lifts from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Festivities will include more music, free donuts, and hot coffee.
Today proves there’s truly nothing like the race to open in Summit County.
