There are plenty of remarkable looking mountains around the world, whether they stand out high above their surrounding peaks, are shaped in a unique manner, or are just unbelievably large. But few, if any, are quite as striking as Mount Asgard in Canada.
Located in the remote Auyuittuq National Park in Nunavut, Canada, the mountains of the Akshayuk Pass tower over the surrounding Baffin Island landscape. Mount Asgard isn’t the only remarkable mountain in the area, with Mount Thor featuring the largest vertical drop in the world, but its flat-topped spires standing high are truly incredible.
Like many mountains in the surrounding area, Mount Asgard owes its unique shape to the movement of glaciers over thousands and thousands of years. Visiting this area is no easy task, though. It requires some serious travel time and experience to do safely. Shorter 2 to 6 day trips are possible through the Akshayuk Pass, but a full traverse usually takes between 8 and 12 days.
