Mikaela Shiffrin is arguably the greatest alpine ski racer of all time. She has a record 101 FIS World Cup wins, 5 overall World Cup titles, 16 individual discipline titles, 2 Olympic gold medals, and 8 World Championship gold medals. She could easily be ranked among the most successful athletes of all time, not just skiers.
Of course you don’t become the greatest skier of all time simply by going skiing. It requires serious training, both on and off the mountain. In a video with Women’s Health, Shiffrin showed off parts of her strength training workout, including warm up stretches and core activation.
Engaging in preseason workouts is vital to ensuring you have a long and happy season on the mountain, whether you’re competing or simply getting on the slopes for fun. Generally a preseason routine would involve strength training, cardio, and stretching, helping to reduce the risk of injury while ensuring you can last all day on the slopes. Of course, finding a way to have fun while doing it is key to success.
