In the winter, professional skier Madison Rose Ostergren is often seen launching off massive cliffs or carving down epic lines. In the summer, she’s participating in a wide variety of off-season activities from climbing to trail running, all while preparing for her next time on skis. She recently shared a few of her “hot takes about training for ski season”, and they might change the way you look at your preseason workouts.
There were a couple of primary takes. For one, she highly recommends downhill running, as it prepares your legs to absorb and rebound to create power in your turns. It also prepares your quads and tendons to cruise through variable snow, hit jump turns, and stomp massive cliffs.
She also recommends weight training, as ensuring that your body is strong can reduce injuries and build your confidence on resort and in the backcountry. Lastly, Madison mentions taking classes, whether they’re AMGA skiing, climbing, or alpine guide classes, to keep you dialed in the mountains. They’re certainly all good tips.
