Aspen, Colorado — Are you looking for a trail sign for your crib? The Aspen Skiing Company is selling old signs from across its four mountains.
This week, an auction began for old signs at the four ski resorts that comprise Aspen Snowmass. This includes signs to trails, lifts, and buildings. The proceeds from the auction will go towards the purchase of the Basalt and Carbondale Mobile Home Parks. This initiative is led by local residents to ensure that affordable housing remains in the community.

Aspen Employee & Affordable Housing Developments
While it’s as challenging as ever to find affordable housing, especially in a ski town, one ot the leading companies in the ski industry is trying to change that for its employees.
In June, Aspen One (the company that runs brands like Aspen SkiCo) announced that it’s working on adding more than 250 housing units for its employees in the Roaring Fork Valley and other mountain communities. According to the Aspen Daily News, Aspen One currently operates 1,300 beds across its properties as of July 2025. Their efforts include building new employee housing, supporting residents in the purchase of mobile home parks, offering season passes for those who offer a room for employees, and helping a childcare facility expand its footprint.
“We are guided by our values and recognize the role we must play in all communities we are part of,” said Dave Tanner, the President and CEO of Aspen One. “We have been working hard, and with urgency, to be a leader providing real, tangible solutions that help alleviate the community challenges we face, and the momentum we’ve gained in the last year, along with continued investment, has led to tangible outcomes that we are so proud of.”
Here’s a rundown on the projects they’re working on:
EJ Crossing: Perhaps the most noteworthy project that Aspen is working on is the EJ Crossing. The twenty-two-acre property would provide 111 units (between 200 and 225 beds) for Aspen employees and those living in the community. This would be a mix of townhomes and apartments. The project is subject to approval from Eagle County, meaning that the timeline for this project is uncertain.

The SHOP: This 30-unit employee housing facility in Snowmass Village will house year-round employees, as well as members of the hospitality team. The project is scheduled to commence in either fall 2025 or spring 2026.
Tiny Town: Situated on the former Aspen-Basalt Campground, this community features 95 tiny homes. This project was recently completed, with 54 of these units being made available to year-round employees.
RFV Mobile Home Parks: Due to concerns that investors might purchase mobile home parks in nearby Basalt and Carbondale, residents came together to buy the parks from their current owners. In June, Aspen One announced that it is contributing $500k towards the purchase of these two properties. The deal reportedly went under contract last month. As referenced above, this sign auction is dedicated to the purchase of the parks.
Tenants for Turns: Similar to other programs offered by ski resorts, this provides homeowners with a complimentary pass for offering an apartment, guest room, or in-law setup to an Aspen Skiing Company employee. Tenants for Turns is now entering its fifth season, and reportedly allows them to house 200 employees.
Blue Lake Preschool: Childcare availability is also a national issue, partially due to pricing. To grow its capacity, Aspen One has donated $500,000 to Blue Lake Preschool, enabling the school to add 33 more spaces for students. This will also lead to the expansion of the infant room, the introduction of a new room for toddlers, and the establishment of an after-school program at their Carbondale location.
Limelight: You may not have realized it, but outside of Aspen, the company also operates the Limelight hotel brand. Efforts are currently underway to add 32-40 beds for employees between the hotels in Ketchum and Mammoth.
