Keeping the “ski 12 months per year” challenge going gets pretty difficult when it reaches September. Any left over snow from the winter before is almost certainly gone, and a majority of the summer ski resorts across the United States and North America have shut down by that point. So, unless you book a flight down to the southern hemisphere, you’d better start searching for permanent snowfields or a glacier.

Whistler Blackcomb once hosted summer skiing on the Hortsman Glacier, serving as a mecca for athletes and enthusiasts hoping to stay in shape during the warm months. Unfortunately those days are over, with the t-bar being removed long ago. But if you’re willing to work for it, is it still possible to ski/snowboard on a glacier in September at Whistler Blackcomb? It’s good to see that, by putting in some work and hiking up to Blackcomb Glacier, it is still possible to ski at Whistler Blackcomb in September. It isn’t remarkably safe, with plenty of rock fall risk and sketchy climbing to keep you wide awake through the entire adventure, but it is possible.
