Peo & Roberto: the forefathers of the Italian mountain bike scene

In the rugged hills above Molini di Triora in Italyโ€™s Valle Argentina, two brothers, Peo Vernassa (73) and Roberto Vernassa (67), have spent over 25 years shaping the Italian mountain biking scene. The brother arenโ€™t just riders, they are trail builders, community creators, and true pioneers.

Long before Finale Ligure became a mecca for mountain bikers worldwide, riders from Finale were making pilgrimages to Molini to experience the legendary singletracks lovingly carved by Peo and Roberto. Their trails were so inspiring that they sparked the creation of Finale Ligureโ€™s first trail, Isallo Extasy, igniting a movement that continues to thrive today.

The Vernassa brothers didnโ€™t stop at trail building, Peo and Roberto also founded Argentina Bike, Italyโ€™s first mountain bike shuttle service, making it far easier for riders to access the high alpine starting points of their trails.

Decades on, Peo and Roberto are highly active digging new lines, maintaining classic trails, and of course enjoying the fruits of their labors. Their work is a testament to passion, perseverance, and the power of community.
