Killington, Vermont โ Are you looking for your next smoking greenhouse… I mean, the next decoration for your backyard?
This week, Killington is auctioning off old gondola cabins. The action will take place on August 25th at 10 am, and end on September 12th at 6 pm.
The cabins are from the Skyeship Gondola, which goes from the Skyeship Lodge on Vermont Route 4 to Skye Peak. These are the original cabins that were part of the lift installation in 1994. They are set to be replaced this offseason by new gondola cabins. Also available for bidding are seven chairs from the old Snowdon Quad chairlift.
The starting bid price for one gondola cabin is $1,000. The following increments will increase the price after each bid by at least $50. Alternatively, each cabin can be bought for $2,000. The proceeds will go towards projects at local ski areas. The bids for the Snowdon chairs start at $450. The buy now price for these is $1,000.
The caveats with this are noteworthy. These are very heavy cabins, with each one weighing more than 950 pounds. Where’s Brock Lesnar when you need him? Machinery such as a forklift and an excavator is recommended, and a trailer will also likely be needed.
Winners will have to pick up their prize on selected dates set by the ski resort. Those days have yet to be announced.
It’s a busy summer at Killington, with various projects underway that will upgrade the guest experience. Some of the upgrades include the new Superstar six-pack chairlift, the new gondola cabins at Skyeship, a new gondola barn for those cabins, 500 new snowguns, and more.
