Warren, Vermont โ While not as noteworthy as last winter’s addition, another new lift will be opening up at Sugarbush next ski season. Over at Mt. Ellen, construction is underway on a new beginner lift.
Sugarbush provided more details about the Sunkid covered conveyor lift yesterday, sharing that it will help create an improved beginner experience at Mt. Ellen. While probably not the primary purpose of installing the lift, it also allows skiers and riders a way to avoid walking up the parking lot to the Mt. Ellen base area. They can get a lap in and ski over to Sunshine Quad or Green Mountain Express.
Sugarbush is also asking for suggestions regarding a name for the lift. Some of the best name suggestions included:
- Closed for Repairs (Locals have grown wary of Sugarbush’s lift woes)
- The Highland Carpet (many of the Mt. Ellen trail names originally had a Scottish theme)
- The Valley Valet (Sugarbush is situated in the Mad River Valley)
Speaking of Sugarbush’s lifts, there are different projects on the docket for the ski resort outside of this conveyor lift. The North Ridge Express was originally scheduled for replacement this offseason, but that lift project was delayed for unspecified reasons.
Sugarbush’s lift experienced various problems last year, including issues with their new Heaven’s Gate chairlift. One lift didn’t even open: the Slide Brook Express, the aging high-speed quad which connects Lincoln Peak and Mt. Ellen. Sugarbush stated earlier this summer that they’re working on repairs to Slide Brook and hope to provide an update soon.
