The Alpe d’Huez is home to one of Europe’s longest black runs is on the mountain, taking skiers and snowboarders almost 10 miles from the Pic Blanc at 10925 feet (3,330m) through the Sarenne gorges at 4954 feet (1,510m). But that’s not the mountain’s most well known run. The notorious Tunnel trail at the Alpe d’Huez takes that title.
What Makes the Tunnel Run at Alpe d’Huez So Notorious?
The Tunnel Run at Alpe d’Huez takes skiers and snowboarders through a 656 foot (200m) long tunnel before spitting them out on France’s steepest mogul field. Over the whole run skiers descend a total of 7234 feet (2,205 meters). It’s a mix of both unique terrain design and pure difficulty, and is definitely only for experienced skiers.
The Alpe d’Huez will be open from December 6, 2025 to Sunday, April 19, 2026 this upcoming winter. The mountain is located less than 5 hours from Paris, and the village has a population of just 1,700 permanent residents. Huez village sits at 4,657 feet while the Alpe d’Huez sits at 6,100 feet.
