Rangeley, Maine — For decades, one of the roadblocks for Saddleback becoming a destination resort has been its lack of a slopeside hotel. That could be changing fairly soon.

This week, CBRE Hotels and the Arctaris Impact Fund (owner of Saddleback) announced a co-investment opportunity that would result in the opening of a hotel or a resort at the Maine ski resort. They’re looking to partner with a group that will help them bring the hotel to life. Those who are interested in developing this can inquire here.

Outside of the number of rooms and location, details remain scant. We do know that if built, it would be next to Saddleback’s base lodge. What we do know is that the lodging options in Rangeley are dated, limited, and a bit of a drive away from the ski resort. While Saddleback does have some rental homes available, these remain relatively limited.

Since reopening in 2020, Saddleback has become one of the best ski resorts in the Northeast. Upgrades have included a high-speed quad chairlift departing from the base area, a new chairlift for the terrain, a new T-Bar, snowmaking upgrades, and real estate developments. These changes have led to a growing number of skier visits, with the ski resort now receiving approximately 90,000 skier visits annually.

We likely won’t hear about this again until an official development announcement happens. We’ll keep you posted on whether a hotel development does indeed occur at Saddleback.
