Meet mountain runner Erin Ton who has the incredibly unique distinction of having climbed 25 of Colorado’s 14,000 foot peaks (known as 14ers) in high heels. Her passion for high heels in the high alpine started as joke but has since taken on life of its own:
“Anything is possible ladies. Don’t listen to the old men who call your actions reckless just because they think that they know more than you. This whole heel thing started out as a joke and I never intended for it to be a statement on women’s empowerment or anything but it is a theme that has emerged more and more over time. If only I had a dollar for every man who has stopped me while I’m out climbing alone (not even in heels) and asked if know where I am going or what I am doing. I should not and do not need to provide a copy of my outdoor resume to others on trail for them to trust that I know what I am getting myself into.” -Erin
So far Ton has summited 25 of Colorado’s 58 14ers in heels, including Wetterhorn Peak which she climbed in the snow with thermal socks under her high heels, and we wish her luck on her quest to summit them all!
