Going-to-the-Sun Road in Glacier National Park has fully reopened after a preemptive closure of alpine sections that began at 8pm on June 20th due to heavy rain and snow that led to icy conditions and made the area more susceptible to mudslides.

Park rangers assessed both the roadway and today’s weather forecast before deciding to reopen the road around 10:30am this morning. It was closed between Avalanche and Jackson Glacier Overlook.

Visitors are encouraged to check the weather forecast and road status before visiting, bringing the ten essentials and dressing for varying degrees of weather. Those traveling to the park this week are encouraged to prepare for inclement weather.

More updated trail status information for Glacier National Park can be found here.
