Copper Mountain's Woodward Terrain Park.

It’s set to reach 100°F in Colorado today and for most people that means seeking out a pool, reservoir, or river to cool off in. For people like us, the high temperatures leave us desiring some snow to ski or snowboard on and though it seems unlikely, there’s still some of that around. In fact, three ski areas are open this weekend for some form of skiing and snowboarding in the United States.

Copper Mountain, CO

Copper Mountain does not have any lifts spinning for public skiing and snowboarding, but their summer hike park is running strong. The summer park is piled over 30 feet high and includes around a dozen features for you to keep your skills fresh throughout the warmer months. The park is open Friday-Sunday from 10am-5pm until September 5th if conditions allow. Day tickets can be purchased for $25 or a season pass can be purchased for $199.

Jay Peak, VT

Jay Peak has been keeping some snow from their Stateside Carpet area stockpiled since this winter, covering it up to prevent melt, and tomorrow marks the day it will go into use. Jay Peak’s Summer Solstice Session feature live music, skateboarding features, and of course skiing for an epic multisport day on Saturday, June 21st. A very limited number of on-snow tickets will be available in 3-hour blocks, so purchase now if you want to participate.

Timberline Lodge, OR

Timberline Lodge on Mt. Hood in Oregon is the one ski area expected to keep chairlifts running to the public all summer long thanks to the Palmer Snowfield. The Palmer Express only operates in the spring and summer, and both the Palmer Express lift and Magic Mile lift operate daily from 7am to 2pm throughout the warmer months. Some sections of the mountain are reserved for private training, but there’s always a few public lanes open. Keep in mind there is no beginner terrain available.
