Iowa’s Department of Natural Resources is continuing a program that allows people to win prizes simply by visiting state parks. The Iowa State Park Passport gives out redeemable points to use toward prizes and giveaway opportunities.

To participate, recreators sign up here and the passport will be delivered to their phone via text and email and ready to use immediately. Once they visit a participating state park, they check in either with GPS or by entering a pin displayed on posters in park kiosks.

Checking in is available at more than 60 state parks and forests via the online app. Each park is worth a certain number of points, either 100, 200 or 300, and “hidden gem parks” earn a higher score than the more common parks.

Any passholder who reaches 500 points will get $5 off an overnight camping stay. The first 500 passholders to redeem at the 1,000 point level receive a beautiful and unique sticker created by Iowa artist Naomi Friend. The first 300 passholders to reach the 2,500 point level will receive a free Iowa state park t-shirt.

Plus for every check-in, passholders will be entered into an opportunity to win a grand prize of a 3-night stay at a cabin at Springbrook State Park. There is no limit to the number of entries per passholder. A full list of rules for the Iowa State Park Passport is available here.
