Mt. Washington, New Hampshire — A warm and wet spring has led to fewer than usual optimal days at Tuckerman Ravine. However, this past week featured some warm weather, which led to some avid skiers heading up to the Mt. Washington Valley to see how much snow is left in the Ravines.
Matt Lush is a passionate New England skier who skis till the bitter end of the ski season. He travelled to Tuckerman Ravine to see how the snow was holding up. While skiing down to the left of The Lip, Matt used his quick instincts to jump over a crevasse (also referred to as a glide crack). Matt likely saw the crevasse while climbing up beforehand and knew he had to have lots of momentum to get over it.
It looks like there’s some good skiing still to be had in Tuckerman Ravine, but you’ll need to be extra mindful of crevasses, among other late spring hazards.
