After this weekend just one ski area in Colorado will still be open. Winter Park‘s closing date is tomorrow, May 18. Arapahoe Basin is yet to announce their closing date, keeping skiing and snowboarding going as late as they possibly can. Yet despite this significantly low number of open resorts, the mountains of Colorado are expecting another solid snow storm between today and Tuesday, May 20.
Both Arapahoe Basin and Winter Park had a solid week last week, with Winter Park recording 16 inches in the past 3 days and the Basin recording 5 inches in the past 48 hours. The National Weather Service forecasts what could be another half a foot of snow falling near Arapahoe Basin.
At Eisenhower Tunnel, 4-7 inches of new snowfall is forecasted. The high end amount has up to 8 inches landing in that area. Arapahoe Basin up the road from the Tunnel, so it won’t necessarily get the same amount but it could see several inches of snow. Other portions of the state could see between 8 and 12 inches of new snow, especially south of Aspen and in the Rocky Mountain National Park area.

We’ll just have to wait and see what happens over the next few days, but Colorado’s last open ski area could be kicking off next week with yet another May powder day.
