An officer-involved shooting occurred in Glen Canyon National Recreation Area this weekend, with National Park Service law enforcement rangers responding to a report of a suspicious vehicle.

According to the National Park Service, NPS law enforcement rangers responded to the report of a suspicious vehicle on Highway 89 after the Kane County Sheriff’s Office issued an alert for a potentially dangerous suspect. While attempting to stop the subject, the individual drove their vehicle into the patrol vehicle.

Rangers subsequently discharged their firearms. No rangers were seriously injured in the incident and the subject was treated at the Page Hospital before being released with non-critcal injuries. They’re currently in custody.

The incident occurred on May 3 at approximately 8pm on Highway 89 near the junction to the Lone Rock Beach Campground road. The NPS, Kane County, and FBI are working together to investigate the incident.
