America’s sole summer only ski resort is set to reopen after a year on the sidelines. Beartooth Basin Summer Ski Area in northwestern Wyoming remained closed in 2024 due to poor snow conditions but they are reopening on May 26th and plan to operate until July 6th.

It’s not just a clever forced scarcity marketing gimmick that Beartooth Basin doesn’t operate in the winter, its actually a practical matter due to its remote location on Beartooth Highway highway which doesn’t get plowed in the winter. Beartooth Highway actually pokes into the northeast corner of Yellowstone National Park and plowing it in the spring is joint effort between The Montana Department of Transportation and the National Park Service.

Beartooth is small, its steep and it only has poma surface lifts so its not for everyone but if you like challenging terrain and fun in the sun, there’s nothing quite like this ripping little Montana ski area.
