Sundance, Utah — In the ski industry, companies love to prank people on April 1st. When you scroll through your social media feeds at the beginning of April, lots of ski resorts and outdoor gear companies love to troll companies with various grandiose or quirky announcements. However, one ski resort made a big expansion announcement a few years ago that made people wonder whether they were kidding or not.
On April 1st, 2022, Sundance Mountain Resort announced a new beginner and intermediate terrain pod called Wildwood. The new expansion would be serviced by a quad chairlift, and open for the 2022-23 season. This announcement had me and many others asking: Is this really legit?
Indeed, it was legit. Construction commenced during the 2022 offseason, and it made its grand debut in December 2024.

The Wildwood expansion has added 40 skiable acres to Sundance Resort. Ten new trails (mostly of beginner and intermediate variety) have been added, which are serviced by a fixed-grip quad chairlift. This quad chairlift has a ride time of around seven minutes. It’s also grown Sundance’s snowmaking capabilities, with more than 40 snow guns.

Today, Sundance Resort is home to 72 trails, 10 lifts, more than 540 acres of skiable terrain, and a vertical drop of 2150 feet. Other recent projects at Sundance include the ski resort’s first high-speed chairlift, a new pool/sauna complex, a parking expansion, a new base lodge at the Jake’s base area.
Several projects are planned in the near future, including a new Inn for overnight guests, and a terrain expansion that will be serviced by a new detachable high-speed chairlift. The base terminal of this new lift will be situated at the base of Wildwood.
