Snowboarder slams into skier from behind.
Snowboarder slams into skier from behind.

Just a quick reminder that before you go fast on either skis or a snowboard, you need to learn how to control your speed, turn, and stop, or else situations like this can happen.

According to the comments, the skier in the below video broke two parts of his lower back, resulting in him needing to walk with a cane for a period and some intense physical therapy. Fortunately he was able to recover. No word on what happened to the snowboarder, though he looks knocked out after the crash. If you’re not ready to watch a pretty disturbing ski crash, I recommend clicking away.

Like mentioned above, learn to control your direction and speed before you decide to go flying down the mountain. The snowboarder had all the time in the world to slow down, stop, or avoid this skier, but his lack of control lead to a terrible situation.

Remember the National Ski Area Association’s Responsibility Code:

  1. Always stay in control. You must be able to stop or avoid people or objects.
  2. People ahead or downhill of you have the right-of-way. You must avoid them.
  3. Stop only where you are visible from above and do not restrict traffic.
  4. Look uphill and avoid others before starting downhill or entering a trail.
  5. You must prevent runaway equipment.
  6. Read and obey all signs, warnings, and hazard markings.
  7. Keep off closed trails and out of closed areas.
  8. You must know how and be able to load, ride and unload lifts safely. If you need assistance, ask the lift attendant.
  9. Do not use lifts or terrain when impaired by alcohol or drugs.
  10. If you are involved in a collision or incident, share your contact information with each other and a ski area employee.
