For the past several years, Breckenridge and Park City have gone back and forth, breaking each other’s records for the world’s largest shot ski. But a new challenger is entering the ring. Sunday River and Jägermeister are looking to take on the record this April, with some very special guests set to host.
For New Englanders looking to prove that they know how to après the best, this is a do-not-miss type of event. This is their chance to show those Rocky Mountain skiers and snowboarders how its done, with a licorice-flavored shot-ski classic filling the glasses, rather than one of those fancy locally-distilled liquors (no hate to those local liquors, they’re delicious).
Of course it wouldn’t be an après party without some top guests, and Sunday River is nailing it on that front. Olympic gold medalist and freestyle skiing legend Jonny Moseley is set to co-host with Maine’s finest athlete Donny Pelletier. If that’s not the recipe for a top-notch party then I don’t know what is (though I’m sure Donny would prefer doing the shot-ski with Allen’s Coffee Brandy).
Breckenridge Distillery and the town of Breckenridge currently hold the world record for the largest shot ski with 1,401 people putting back a shot of Breckenridge Broncos Blend and Candy Cane Vodka at the same time. That’s an impressive number and certainly not an easy one to beat, but I think Sunday River and the state of Maine have got what it takes.
The record breaking attempt is set to go down on April 7 at The Igloo, with check-in starting at 11am and the attempt starting at 1pm. Afterwards, of course, there will be plenty of après festivities and giveaways to keep the party going. Free parking and shuttles to the igloo will be provided. You must be 21 years or older with a valid ID to participate.
