Rockslide closes entry road to Yosemite National Park
Rockslide closes entry road to Yosemite National Park

An important entry into Yosemite National Park has been cut off after a massive rockslide covered a portion of California State Route 140 in debris.

According to Caltrans the slide happened sometime during the night of March 17th. The agency was forced to close a two mile stretch of the highway between Briceburg and El Portal.

The closure is indefinite as Caltrans crews clear the debris and inspect the hillside to ensure there is no further rockslide dangers. Anyone traveling in the area at this time should avoid this route and seek alternative highways (SR-41, SR-120) to and from Yosemite National Park.

Caltrans, District 10 Statement:

Caltrans has a long-term FULL CLOSURE of SR-140 from Briceburg to Incline / Hites Mine Rd. in Mariposa County due to a debris slide. There is no current ETO as of 7PM on Tue. 3/18/24. Motorists should avoid this route and seek alternative highways (SR-41, SR-120) to and from Yosemite National Park. For real-time highway & closure information visit Caltrans QuickMap app on mobile devices or visit Quickmap.dot.ca.gov.
