Hancock, Vermont It’s been a great ski season for ski resorts in Vermont, which includes the Middlebury Snowbowl.

After adding a new quad chairlift and night skiing last winter, Middlebury Snowbowl has made further improvements for this season. A refurbishment of the Bailey Falls chairlift allowed them to reopen it for the first time in a couple of years. In addition, more trails have been added to the terrain network.

Earlier this month, the Middlebury Snowbowl announced that it’s more than 100% open. This was made possible by clean-up work done by Ski Patrol Director Sean Grzyb and Assistant General Manager Ryan McNulty to add new terrain to their network over the past few offseasons. The old Poma trails that have been renovated and renamed include Big Cookie, which used to be the lift line for the old Poma lift, along with S-Turn & Game Trail. The new trails include Panther, a black diamond trail that goes under the Worth Mountain chairlift, and the Pete’s Pass & Bailey Falls Traverse, which are traverse pistes that connect skiers to other trails. Then there’s the new Learning Center trail, Discovery Trail, which opened last ski season.

Some of these trails were previously marked as off-trail glades, but weren’t considered trails on the mountain, and were less maintained as they are today. With them now officially being on the trail map, they are now officially considered part of the lineup.

“This is a historic milestone for the Snowbowl,” said Kim Essensa, the General Manager at Middlebury Snowbowl. “It’s a true testament to the dedication of our leadership team, staff, and partners. Sean Grzyb and Ryan McNulty have gone above and beyond to make this expansion happen, and the lift wouldn’t be here today without Joe Renish, Nate Reinhold, and the hardworking teams from SkyTrac Lift, Leitner-Poma, and G.W. Tatro Construction. The effort and passion behind this project have been nothing short of extraordinary, and we’re beyond excited to welcome skiers and riders to experience it.”

After a few weeks of being less than 100% open, Middlebury got back to 29 trails open today thanks to recent snowfall. The best chance to experience all the terrain at the Snowbowl is during weekends and holidays, as that’s when the Bailey Falls chairlift operates.

So if you’re looking to ski at an undiscovered ski area this winter, Middlebury Snowbowl is certainly an option.
