Avalanche sideswipes truck in Quebec

Gaspé resident Lisa Bond was driving with her husband on their way home from a trip to Jamaica when the unthinkable happened, the truck was struck by avalanche.

The Bonds were on a Highway 132 in Mont-Saint-Pierre, Quebec, Canada returning from their beach vacation when the slide took out their vehicle. Lisa Bond had her phone out taking a video of the mountains she planned on sending to her friends and captured the moment the avalanche struck. Their truck was buried in avalanche debris. A delivery driver who witnessed the slide helped dig the Bonds’ truck out and they were back on the road within minutes.

Provincial police report three people were climbing near the site of the avalanche but did not specify if they triggered the slide. No injuries were reported. Following the incident Avalanche Quebec issued a special avalanche warning for sections of the northern shore of the Haute-Gaspésie region.

“My Husband and I were returning from a trip to Jamaica. On our way home, after being stuck in Rimouski for 2 nights due to road closures, we where arriving upon Mont St. Pierre when my husband noticed the snow letting go and the beginning of the avalanche. This allowed us the slow down dramatically until the snow was pushing the truck and within seconds we were buried up to the windows. We where pulled out by a man who was behind us and had a pickup and equipment to pull us out. Within 15 minutes the ambulance arrived and then the police to follow. We had no injuries and the truck had no damage. We are extremely fortunate to have got out safely! Please excuse my profanity! the adrenaline was rushing and that was all I could say!” –Lisa Bond

The imprint left by the vehicle after it backed out of the avalanche debris is remarkable:
