Tough day out on the slopes for Colorado skier/podcaster Austin Becker who hit a rock hidden just beneath the surface of the snow moments after dropping into a line at his home resort. Austin hosts the Falling Off The Floor Podcast where he will likely share more information about his accident and recovery process. So far all we know is he “blew out his ankle” and “broke his ski boot in half”:
“Down for the count. I’ll be out for a bit but I’ll be back soon. My first day back at my home resort in Colorado, did not go as planned but it’s the cost of doing business. Just a bit bummed and frustrated, especially on something so silly as a drop in like this.” -Austin Becker
Snow sharks (skier lingo for rocks hidden beneath snow) are most dangerous at the beginning of the ski season when snow base depths are low but can remain hazardous throughout the winter in certain terrain. Always be aware of you surroundings and on alert for obscured obstacles as there might be a snow shark lurking just below the surface waiting to bite.
Best wishes to Austin. Heal up soon buddy!
