Family taking a hot tub realizes there is a mountain lion just feet away.

A family enjoying a nighttime soak in a hot tub in the small community of Tofino on Vancouver Island, British Columbia thought the rustling they heard emanating from some nearby bushes was just some rascally raccoons but the intruder turned out to be full grown 200 pound mountain lion.

Father and daughter, Steve and Natalee Dennis, were shocked when the camera light reflected off the big cats eyes before the head became visible as it crouched just feet away. Interesting fact, cat’s eyes have special feature called tapetum lucidum which acts like a mirror reflecting light back through the retina for better night vision and is the reason they seem to glow in the dark when light is shined on them.

The Dennis family is well aquatinted with the mountain lions of Vancouver Island and have not discontinued use of their hot tub but are currently only using it during daylight hours. Wild!
