Closure at Alyeska Resort.
Closure at Alyeska Resort.

Extreme weather, an extended power outage, and intense winds forced the closure of all lifts at Alaska’s Alyeska Resort on Monday, January 6. A post to their social media around 1:00pm on Monday shared the news, in addition to the closure of The Sitzmark Bar & Grill.

Lift credits were offered for another day at the ticket offices for those who purchased day tickets. The 6th was supposed to be Alyeska’s first Military Monday of the season, offering free tickets to active duty and retired military, veterans, and family.

On Tuesday, January 7, the extreme weather had slowed down enough to allow the mountain to reopen once again with 25″ of snow falling throughout Monday. A delayed opening was expected on Glacier Bowl Express & the Ariel Tram, but Bear Cub Quad & Chair 7 were expected to open at 10am.

Ted’s Express was eventually set to open around 11:00am, while the upper mountain lifts were given an expected opening at 11:30am.

We are now anticipating an opening at 11:30am for the upper mountain lifts. Ted’s Express opening has been delayed until 11:00am
