Maggie Valley, North Carolina — North Carolina’s ski industry continues to modernize. After new lift additions at Beech Mountain and Sugar Mountain Resort, along with the extensive renovation of Hatley Pointe, people are noticing and visiting these ski resorts.

This past weekend, Cataloochee Ski Area announced that it will replace the Omigish double chairlift in 2025. The double chairlift will be replaced by a new Doppelmayr Alpenstar fixed-grip quad chairlift. The new chairlift will have a length of 2,800 feet and a vertical rise of 740 feet.

The Omigosh chairlift, which is Cataloochee’s sole chairlift to the summit, is the only way to get to the Upper Omigosh, Upper Snowbird, and The Meadows trails. Like its predecessor, there will be a mid-station that services the intermediate Lower Omigosh piste, which leads to the Rabbit Hill trail.

Construction will begin following the conclusion of the 2024-25 season. Cataloochee intends to have it ready for opening weekend of the 2025-26 season.

Currently, Cataloochee has 15 of its 18 trails open, and all of its lifts are operating. With a packed powder surface, Cataloochee has a snow depth of 38-58 inches.
