The Colorado Avalanche Information Center has issued several avalanche watches for multiple portions of the state, many of which will run through the weekend.
In the Park Range and Elkhead Mountains near Steamboat Springs, an avalanche watch begins tonight, December 27, at 5:00pm, and is currently set to run until 5:00pm on Monday, December 30. Very dangerous avalanche conditions are likely to develop and remain for several days.
In the Flat Top Mountains, the Gore Range, the West Elk Mountains, the Ragged Wilderness, and the Ruby Range, an avalanche watch is in effect from Saturday, December 28 at 12:00am to Monday, December 30, at 4:30pm. New snow and strong winds are likely to create very dangerous avalanche conditions.
In all of the mentioned areas, travel in avalanche terrain is not recommended. Additionally several other portions of the state remain at Avalanche Danger Level 3 or Avalanche Danger Level 2, and travel in avalanche terrain is always a risk.
