Arosa Bärenland

At Arosa Bärenland (or Arosa Bear Sanctuary in English) you have the opportunity to safely view bears up close while on the slopes of a Swiss ski resort, something you would certainly have a hard time finding anywhere else. Located on the slopes of the Arosa Ski Area, the sanctuary is home to several bears rescued from poor conditions.

The sanctuary is a joint effort between the Arosa Tourism Board, VIER PFOTEN, and the Arosa Ski Area, bringing tourists and visitors up close to bears. Napa became the first bear to enter the sanctuary in 2018, eventually passing in 2020. Amelia and Meimo, two former restaurant bears, entered the park in 2019, and three other bears have called Arosa Bärenland their home.

To get the bears up to the park, they sometimes have to be transferred by gondola. This video below shows the arrival of Napa in 2018.
