Mansfield, Ohio In a testament to its snowmaking prowess, one Ohio ski area already has all of its terrain open.

On Thursday, December 5th, Snow Trails opened for the season. This opening was one week earlier than when it typically opens. The ski area didn’t open with a small amount of terrain like what is typical for most ski areas. Snow Trails opened with 100% of its terrain (21 trails) and various lifts operating. This opening was thanks to 127 straight hours of snowmaking from their mountain operations crew. Snow tubing will begin on Thursday, December 12th.

Meanwhile, properties operated by Vail Resorts in Ohio have yet to open for the season. Alpine Valley and Boston Mills did just announce that they’re opening on December 13th.

The major addition for the 2024-25 season at Snow Trails includes rope tow that services The Woods Park. This project is nearing completion. Other improvements included nine new snowguns, new snowmaking wire on the Mt. Manfield trail, pipe replacement on the Mt. Mansfield trail, the refurbishment of ten snowguns, 28 new LED lights across the trails, the West Woods Lift receiving a wire rope replacement along with a new base lift shack, remodeling Lucky’s Cafeteria, a fresh pave of the snow tubing parking lot, and various other maintenance projects.
