Incline Village, Nevada — If you’re looking for a relatively easy way to enter the backcountry in the Tahoe area this winter, consider heading to Diamond Peak.
As part of its announcement of what’s new for the 2024-25 season, Diamond Peak revealed that it has added a backcountry gate. Situated near the top terminal of the Crystal Express Chairlift, this gate will give access to various zones, including backside slopes that give views of Carson Valley and west-facing slopes that showcase Lake Tahoe. Those who want to reach the gate will either have to buy a lift ticket or be a season passholder.
However, it should be noted that Diamond Peak’s ski patrol doesn’t conduct avalanche mitigation in the backcountry. As always, please bring the proper gear with you. Click here for more information about accessing the backcountry from Diamond Peak.
Other improvements at Diamond Peak for this ski season include a new PistenBully 600 Polar Park groomer, a Pass Holder Early Ups event on February 22nd, and guided night snowshoe tours.
Diamond Peak’s projected opening date is tomorrow, December 5th.
