Join Italian freeriders Jakob and Matthias Weber as they take on their hairiest adventure in the Dolomites. The Weber brothers kicked off their winter YouTube series with a trip down the insanely steep 56° King Couloir on Königspitze in the Ortler Alps.
“An intense story from one of the craziest days we had during the last winter.” -Matthias Weger
If no fall zone skiing is your cup of tea, you will appreciate this heart pounding first descent. Enjoy.
Still one of the most difficult and committing lines I skied so far. Feels like it really turned in to a long term goal, to ski this 1000 meter line from the top and especially ahead of the sluff.
This time and after many attempts we finally managed to step on to the ramp which leads up towards the North Face.
The layers where stabile but just 50 meters below the top, we noticed that there where no more signs of spindrift on the surface of the snow, so we did another stability test and detected a pretty serious weak layer. Etc 5, so we immediately stopped. The ramp hangs above a 300 meter wall, a crash / avalanche would be fatal.
We skied it from there, 50 meters from the top. Jakob went first. He dropped in hot and seemed very committed to win against the sluff.
